On December 10, 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed: for the first time in the history of humanity, a document was produced that concerned all the people of the world.
Each of us, by the mere fact of being born, enjoys the rights enshrined in the Declaration. Each of us, regardless of where we were born and live, enjoys these rights. Each of us has civil, political, social, economic, cultural rights. Each of us is equal to everyone else.
Is this always the case?
In HUMAN RIGHTS? the artists talk about human rights. The simple and direct title, without mincing words, expresses the fundamental concept that must accompany everyone’s existence. The focus is on the question mark.In this event, uncomfortable, complex and denunciatory topics are touched upon, which go to prod the conscience of all those who, fully enjoying their rights, do not think of all the people who see theirs trampled every day.
The logic of HUMAN RIGHTS? is based on the fundamental concept of art as a universal form of expression, understandable to everyone regardless of their language and culture of origin, regardless of gender, the subject matter and the languages used.
The languages vary based on the experience and mastery of the artists, and create new relationships with the public, who approach art feeling immediately involved and directly touched. Images of discomfort, of violated rights, of everyday stories that should not exist, but also images that with wisdom and why not, irony, know how to deal with a difficult and delicate subject.
The exhibition will highlight the different ways of seeing the issue, since the event is open to artists from all over the world. It thus becomes particularly interesting to discover in what way the perception of the concept of „respect for rights“ is experienced and expressed.
The most immediate way to regain that awareness, essential to truly be part of a system that respects everyone’s rights, is to see with your own eyes everything that the artists have to say.
“HUMAN RIGHTS?” is the event that in sixteen years and eighteen editions has become an annual event that the public awaits to have the opportunity to independently enjoy a contemporary art event, accessible, readable and with strong philosophical and artistic content.
The event was conceived from the beginning by creating a path that could be read independently by anyone, through the exhibition of works accompanied by short texts in Italian and English, not so much as an explanation of the work, but as a message that the Artist wants to convey to the visitor as if he were always present at the location.
With this original and creative formula, the public has had the opportunity to approach a unique and different way of enjoying contemporary art. The strength of this event, in a winning synergy between the organizers and hosting structures, has created an important annual event that, over the years, has been able to give life to a great ferment among artists and the public.
On the one hand, the Artists are aware that every year they will have a new challenge to face in order to participate in the selections and, hopefully, overcome them and be part of one of the most representative events on the international scene dedicated to human rights; on the other hand
, the public awaits with great interest the event that in each edition is able to provide important food for thought both on human rights and on art, on its social role, and on its stylistic and creative contents. In sixteen years, HUMAN RIGHTS? has brought about a substantial change in the community of Artists around the world, who await with great interest every year the call-for-Artists with the new topic. The change lies precisely in the fact that thousands of Artists around the world await the message of HUMAN RIGHTS? to create their art. No longer, therefore, a proposal from the Artist to the world, but a message that starts from the creators and through the Artist reaches people around the world with strength, with a universal language, with profound meanings and touches everyone, of any culture.
Likewise, the way visitors receive the social message has changed, because it is amplified by art, by an installation that becomes a narrative and a path that inevitably involves, forces reflection and accompanies even beyond the visit to the exhibition. For these reasons HUMAN RIGHTS? has become increasingly multicultural and multidisciplinary, embracing all aspects of art and the culture of peace because through all the languages of art, such as painting, sculpture, photography, installations, performances, video art, digital art and everything that is an expression of human creativity, it has been able to bring clear, unambiguous and open messages to all the people of the world.
