Invitation to a reading group: GUIDELINES FOR COOPERATIVE LEGISLATIONS/ Hagen Henry
In these current times of rising inflation, cost of living, and economic strife, commercial companies not only work to secure their profits but also to enlarge it at the expense of workers and consumers. This is the nature of capitalism.
Cooperatives are a way for ordinary people to self-organize, pool resources, and be the owners of the means of production in a democratically managed company.
Cooperatives are not-for-profit companies in the sense that they put the well-being of their members and the community before profit.
Cooperatives in Serbia most often exist and function in the field of agriculture. Cooperatives in urban areas, such as workers; or consumers cooperatives, are rare and only a few attempts are known in the field of education and production. Although this is still not a practice in Serbia, artists in the world are increasingly organizing themselves through cooperatives in order to ensure better conditions for the realization and placement of their work.
We invite you to join our reading group which will be dedicated to understanding the principles and values of cooperatives with the aim of helping us form them. The reading group will start by reading the ILO guidelines for Cooperative Law by Hagen Henrÿ.
The reading group will take place every Sunday beginning from the 2nd of July 2023 at 2 PM.
