INTERNATIONAL TRIENNIAL OF EXTENDED MEDIA, MULTIMEDIA ARTS AND NEW MEDIA ARTS
RECONNECTION 2019
Organized by the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia and the Section of Extended Media of ULUS
The International Triennial of Extended Media, Multimedia Art and New Media Art “RECONNECTION 2019” is organized by the Section of Extended Media of the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (ULUS). This Triennial, the fifth in a row, includes art actions, happenings, performances, screenings of films and video works, presentations, lectures and discussions. The event is designed as a series of artistic events in Belgrade, Zrenjanin, Vrsac, Sabac, Smederevska Palanka and Pancevo. In that way, it contributes to decentralization and bringing the current events on the art scene closer to the general public.
The general concept of the Triennial implies integrality and the systematic approach to art and artwork. Emphasis is placed on connecting and reconnecting the fragmented art scene with all its actors, which encourages the strengthening of interactive practices. The planned concept will be realized by organizing public meetings, conversations, debates, and discussions in which participants will be artists, curators, critics, theorists, gallerists, collectors, cultural institutions, educational institutions, as many other participants in the art scene.
Triennial “RECONNECTION” recognizes and maps diverse inter-medial practices, from classical expressions and forms that have gained new life through the use of computers and the internet, to artistic expressions that integrate high-tech and scientific achievements into their own artistic production. Artistic expressions such as installations, curated environments, and interventions in space have also found their places in the Triennial, alongside many other artistic expressions and forms such as street art, land art, body art, performance, happenings, and conceptual art. Works from kinetic art, digital electronic art, video and film also occupy an important place. High-tech works of computer art are especially interesting: generative works, VR works, holography, animation, laser works, works with BCI.
During the selection, certain images and sculptures that made a shift towards multimedia were taken into account, applying the principle of experimentation and research, under the influence of the experiences of new digital media. Also, in many works of extended art media, the aesthetics of traditional media and the corresponding visual language represent the starting point, model, or inspiration for the creation of the work. In that way, a new connection or reconnection is established between different and seemingly distant artistic practices.
Within the Triennial, a special program IN MEMORIAM was held, dedicated to the artist and mathematician Marica Radojčić (1943-2018). A documentary film by a group of artists from Austria about their long-term cooperation was shown. The event was a tribute to the passed-away artist and her rich artistic opus.
