Invitation to a reading group: PRODUCER COOPERATIVES AS A NEW MODE OF PRODUCTION / Bruno Jossa
After navigating the complexities of cooperative legislation with Hagen Henrÿ, we’re gearing up for our next reading session. This time, we are reading and discussing the book “Producer Cooperatives as a New Mode of Production” by Bruno Jossa.
The notion that there is no alternative to capitalism emerged after the fall of the Berlin Wall and made rapid headway due to increasing economic globalisation. More recently, this belief that no viable alternative has held firm despite the financial crisis, high unemployment levels and an ever-increasing gap between rich and poor.
However, economic theorists have been developing a workable alternative: a system of self-managed firms. The core argument outlined in this book is that a well-organised system of producer cooperatives would give rise to a new mode of production and, ultimately, a genuinely socialist society.
The reading group program aligns with ULUS’s vision to pave the way for establishing a cooperative of artists in Serbia. By exploring the principles and possibilities outlined in theory and practice, we aim to lay a strong foundation for our collective aspirations.
The reading group will occur every Sunday from October 1st 2023, at 2 PM.
The book can be found here.
