Open-call for project “ja sam ranjivost” (“I am vulnerability”)
BIENNIAL OF YOUTH : PART 6
I am Vulnerability / Ja sam ranjivost
Open-call
26.09.23 – 01.10.23, Roman Well, Kalemegdan Fortress – Belgrade
Semi-curatorial project as a Part 6 of Biennial of Youth 2023
Vulnerability is always somewhere around us. What does she look like? In what contexts do we experience it and what should we do with this feeling?
We are acutely aware of vulnerability. Having lost stability, not fully understanding what awaits us next, we nevertheless want to look at the vulnerable situation from a different angle. This is a special condition, and it seems important to us that it brings not only pain, but also a resource of strength. The exhibition will revolve around a lyrical heroine named Vulnerability. Who is Vulnerability? Is she a sensation or a state? Does she come from inside or from outside? We want to get face to face with her, materialize, look into her eyes and – become friends. We want to feel the character of Vulnerability, to find her “hero arch”. To do this, two curators Kota Davudova and Nu Simakina will collaborate with the Biennial of Youth organizing team and an artist working with artificial intelligence (endléa). AI artist will voice over works of art, offering new sound variations every day based on the visual of the exhibition and text tags, thus placing works of art in a new context every day. The works of artists interpreting the image of vulnerability will be daily placed in different environments: vulnerability & domestic violence, vulnerability & nature, vulnerability & war, and so on. The exhibition will be placed in a very acoustic place – Roman Well in Belgrade Fortress – Kalemegdan from 26th of September till 1st of October 2023.
The open call is addressed to artists, researchers, film-makers and others, especially the ones from vulnerable groups (refugees, precaria, LGBTQ+, expats, minorities, people with disabilities, socially and economically disadvantaged individuals. All those who know what Vulnerability looks like. We are looking for the art works of various visual media – paintings and art objects, installations and video art, performances and plays etc. Due to the short term of the open call, we are only looking for finished works.
Applications are accepted via form until September 17th, 23:59 CET. All participants will receive a response no later than September 19th. For participants from other cities – unfortunately, travel and accommodation of participants is not paid, but sending and printing of some works is possible. We are looking for any format of visual and digital art, as well as films, lectures, performances and music, since in addition to the exhibition there will be an extensive program of events.

AI artist:
endléa is an drone/ambient project of Siberian sound artist.
Started in 2019, endléa creates different kinds of drone & ambient music, using modular synthesizers, field recordings, tape loop processing coupled with a wide range of acoustic instruments. The main idea of the project is to study the influence of sound forms and states on human consciousness, as well as to study sound as a crystallized fragment of time, with the help of which you can immerse yourself deeper and rethink the necessary aspects of life. In addition to the sound project, endléa has been a Machine Learning Researcher for over 5 years, predominantly working with sound tasks such as speech synthesis, emotion recognition, and so on.
In his work, endléa will work with generative neural network models and modular synthesizers on sound art for each of the exhibition’s works.
